While we specialize in transmissions and drive-trains for high-end European vehicles - such as Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Porsche, Audi, Jaguar, etc. - we also service all Domestic- and Asian-manufactured vehicles.
To provide you with an example of how our work differs from other transmission shops, here is one example for an upgrade on a high-torque off-road vehicle. This 1988 Chevrolet Suburban was completely rebuilt in 1998, with a new engine, a 9” lift kit, and all 4x4 gear.
Previously, we replaced the compressor-driven Air-Lock differential for rock climbing with a standard 4:10 differential, and upgraded the truck’s rear axles to 30-spline (2004).
In 2006, the customer was looking to replace and upgrade the transmission to make it more suitable for the high-torque force on the drive train - pictures below (and read the customer’s testimony after we completed our work). We:
- Replaced the transmission, and equipped it with special upgrades:
- installed a furnace-braced torque converter (comes as a factory-standard only in high-performance vehicles such as Corvettes)
- upgraded the frictions from the standard 6 (six) to 9 (nine)
- replaced the input drum
- replaced the sun shell (with a newer design and hardened shell; the spline tends to strip or break off - see example below)
- replaced the 2-4 band (we never re-use the band, which is likely to slip in 2nd gear and will not hold the power if slightly burned)
- upgraded to bigger valves in the pump for better oil pressure
- installed new vines for the variable displacement pump
- installed new, improved bushings to make the transmission last
- replaced the input sprag (rotates one way, locks the other), with a new element inside (especially important for 4x4’s, high-performance vehicles, big/heavy vehicles, trucks, and big haulers)
- installed new bearings (we NEVER re-use existing bearings)
- re-calibrated the valve body
- replaced the valve body separator plate (we ALWAYS replace it)
- replaced the 3-4 accumulator springs (if they break they hammer against the valve body separator plate, causing extensive damage)
- installed special boost valves
- installed special intermediate boost valves
- replaced the aluminum pistons with superior bonded rubber pistons inside the input drum
- installed a valve body correction / re-calibration package
- upgraded the hydraulic servo for performance improvement and a better, more aggressive shift feel
- replaced the governor gear (we ALWAYS replace it, hardly anyone else does)
- Replaced the transfer case seal
- Flushed the transmission cooler tank (we ALWAYS flush it - it keeps the transmission properly cooled, and avoids costly replacements)
- and test-drive prior to returning the vehicle to the customer
